A vibrant new quarter in the heart of Dorset's county town; Brewery Square redefines Dorchester as a new shopping and leisure destination.

Dorchester has been the commercial centre of the Wessex region since Roman times. With an affluent demographic profile, the scheme is within a 30 minute drive-time for the catchment of c. 250,000 people.

Developed by Waterhouse and Resolution Property, the £100m Brewery Square project is the largest town centre regeneration in the South West.

Situated at the end of South Street, between Dorchester's historic market and the main London line station at Dorchester South, Brewery Square has created the town's main (and only) square with a spectacular illuminated multi-jet fountain.

The 26 new buildings, designed by Piers Gough CBE of CZWG Architects, complement the four characterful Victorian and Edwardian original listed brewery buildings, with restorations designed by Conran & Partners. Conran's also designed the exceptional quality public realm landscaping for the scheme, with extensive use of York stone paving, granite sett cobbled streets and courtyards, Portland stone amphitheatre seating around the granite paved multi-jet fountain and solar powered street lighting.

Since opening in 2013 Brewery Square has become the new heart and soul of Dorchester; the Summer Carnival attracted over 4,000 visitors. The Christmas lights turn on had a similar number. Flash mob events, local choirs, exhibitions of classic cars and the 'Race for Life' have also recently been held in the square. Over 6,000 people used the 'Skating-in-the-Square winter ice rink over Christmas.

The giant LED 'Screen-in-the-Square shows a wide selection of content; major sporting fixtures, classic films, local art competitions and major public events as well as advertising for Brewery Square and other local businesses. The shops and restaurants opened so far are all trading well.

The public reaction to the scheme has been overwhelmingly positive. The scheme's Facebook page has over 26,000 followers:, and over 150,000 people have visited the website:
